On Tuesday, April 11 Fulbright U.S. Student Program semi-finalists for the 2023-24 grant cycle were honored at the Fulbright Reception hosted by the Office of International Affairs and the Undergraduate Fellowship Office at the Faculty Club.
The Undergraduate Fellowship Office is pleased to announce that nine graduating seniors and recent graduates advanced from the semifinalist stage to receive prestigious U.S. Student Fulbright Awards for the 2023-2024 academic year from the U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.
The following graduating seniors and recent graduates received Fulbright U.S. Student Program awards to teach English or research abroad:
- Shanvanth Arnipalli, Taiwan English Teaching Assistant, Environmental Science Major
- Sarah Hohman, Moldova English Teaching Assistant, Russian Major
- Shing-Tsz Lin, Vietnam English Teaching Assistant, Political Science and Sociology Major with a minor in History
- Caroline Mallory, Taiwan English Teaching Assistant, International Studies Major with minors in Geographic Information Science and Chinese
- William Marshall, Laos English Teaching Assistant, Molecular Genetics Major with a minor in Philosophy
- Byann Rasul, Turkey English Teaching Assistant, Teaching English Speakers Other Languages Major with an English minor
- Alyssa Sharp, Poland English Teaching Assistant, Integrated Language Arts/English Education Major with a minor in Professional Writing
- Sarah Stouffer-Lerch, Canada Research Award, Public Policy Analysis and Hospitality Management Major with a minor in Popular Culture Studies
- Lisa Vogeler, Austria Community-Based Combined Award, Psychology and German Major
- Additionally, Shayna Kling, a Psychology Major with minors in Spanish and Business, has been named an alternate for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program for an Argentina English Teaching Assistantship.
The Fulbright participants will study, conduct research, and teach abroad for the 2023-2024 academic year through the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. Recipients of Fulbright awards are selected in an open, merit-based competition that considers leadership potential, academic and/or professional achievement, and record of service. Their careers are enriched by joining a network of thousands of accomplished Fulbright alumni, many of whom are leaders in their fields. Notable Fulbright alumni include 62 Nobel Prize laureates, 89 Pulitzer Prize recipients, 78 MacArthur Fellows and 41 who have served as a head of state or government. Since 1946, the Fulbright Program has provided more than 400,000 participants from over 160 countries the opportunity to study, teach and conduct research, exchange ideas, and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns.
The U.S. Student Fulbright competition for undergraduates and recent graduates is administered at Ohio State through the Undergraduate Fellowship Office.
