Honors Course Development Grants

Ohio State instructors are invited to apply for a grant of up to $4,250 to support the development of a new Honors course. Grants can support Honors courses to be offered on any Ohio State campus. Honors courses are at the core of the Honors student experience at The Ohio State University. They are taught by dedicated instructors from every corner of the university who employ a rich combination of high-impact practices. These in turn provide our honors students with the intellectual challenge and support necessary to foster analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills as well as a sense of community. It is critical that we as a university provide sufficient options and variety of Honors courses for students to complete their degree with Honors distinction.

As part of Ohio State’s newly launched Academic Excellence plan, the Office of Academic Enrichment is offering Honors Course Development Grants for support in the Honors course approval process of either:

  • embedded Honors courses (E) some students take the course for Honors credit while the rest take the course as a non-Honors course
  • dedicated Honors courses (H) only Honors students are enrolled

Instructors who have:

  • an idea for a new Honors E or H course
  • taught/are teaching a course as a non-Honors course

and are interested in (re)designing their course as an E or H course are encouraged to apply.

Honors Course Development Institute

In addition to funding support, the Course Development Grant also includes attending a Honors Course Development Institute (CDI) beginning in mid-January 2026 with the whole grant cohort. The Honors CDI will be facilitated by experts in course design and High-Impact Practices and will provide instructors with opportunities to share their work and receive feedback from fellow instructors who are working through the same process. Successful applicants will receive up to a total of $4,250 with 50% of the funding paid at the completion of the CDI and the remaining balance paid once the course has been approved for H- or E-designation.
