Brutus Talks Branding

Tuesday, February 10

7:00 p.m.

Morrill Tower Vending Room

Ohio State's incredible brand value and spirit program offer an exciting backdrop for our Brutus talks Branding event on February 10 at 7pm in the Morrill Tower Vending Room. The Buckeyes aren't just any college football program - they're the most valuable athletic program in the country, valued at an astounding $1.32 billion with $280 million in revenue in 2023.

At the heart of this powerful brand is Brutus Buckeye, the university's iconic mascot. Since his debut in 1965, Brutus has become a beloved symbol of Ohio State spirit. Created by students Ray Bourhis and Sally Huber, in partnership with Ohio Staters Inc. who donated $50 to construction expenses, the mascot was originally a simple papier-mâché nut that has since evolved into a cherished university tradition.

The Spirit Program that manages Brutus is responsible for maintaining this incredible brand representation.  The program takes great care in training mascot performers to represent the university's prestigious reputation, which is backed by an impressive alumni network of over 600,000 and a fan base exceeding 11 million. Join us, as Ray Sharp, from the Spirit Program will talk about how they manage the OSU brand.

We'll stop at anything interesting and our end time is flexible. We'll meet inside Panera Bread on Lane Ave at 5:00 pm. From there, we'll take Lane to the trail and enjoy a slow walk along the Olentangy River Trail through the Tuttle Park loop before turning back towards campus. Winter evenings offer a great chance to look for ducks, geese, and foraging creatures.
