Shining Star: Ohio State honors student joins prestigious Astronaut Scholars

Harrison Blake, a rising senior, has been awarded the Astronaut Scholarship, which recognizes outstanding students in STEM pursuing research careers.

Blake was awarded the scholarship for his initiative, creativity, and leadership in physics and astronomy.

This year, the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation awarded 68 scholarships to students at 46 universities.

Fulbright U.S. Student Semi-finalists honored and awardees announced

On Tuesday, April 11 Fulbright U.S. Student Program semi-finalists for the 2023-24 grant cycle were honored at the Fulbright Reception hosted by the Office of International Affairs and the Undergraduate Fellowship Office at the Faculty Club.

Two Ohio State students honored as 2023 Udall Awardee and Honorable Mention

Two Ohio State students have been recognized by the Udall Foundation. Udall recognizes outstanding students involved in leadership, service, and careers related to the environment, and awards $7,000 toward undergraduate expenses to 55 undergraduates nationally. 

Ohio State helped this student shape his vision

One day, Eyako Heh sees himself as a research professor heavily involved in community outreach and activism, bridging divides and helping to fix some of most pressing systemic issues we face as a society.

It’s a vision inspired by his experiences and relationships at Ohio State.

Alumna Laila Ujayli receives Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans

Laila Ujayli has been busy the past few years. She graduated summa cum laude from The Ohio State University in 2018, with majors in English and international relations along with minors in screenwriting and business; earned two master’s degrees from Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar; and started her first year at Harvard Law School. Now, she’ll be adding the Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans to her list of accolades and achievements.

Ohio State students honored with Goldwater Scholarships

Four students from The Ohio State University have been recognized by the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program.

Juniors Lia Gomez-Perez, Anthony Moussa, Rakesh Murugesan and Mackenzie Scott were all named 2022 Goldwater Scholars, the prestigious national award for undergraduate researchers in science, math and engineering. Goldwater Scholars receive an award to cover the cost of tuition, fees, books, and room and board up to a maximum of $7,500.

Ohio State named top producer of Fulbright scholars and students

The Ohio State University is among only five institutions in the country to be named a top producer for both Fulbright U.S. scholar and U.S. student programs, according to the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs.

Ohio State is tied for fifth nationally with six Fulbright scholar awards and is tied for 14th with 10 Fulbright student awards for the 2021-22 academic year.

Ohio State, University District Organization partner to add full-time social worker to off-campus area

The Ohio State University is working with community partners to bring on a full-time social worker dedicated to helping housing-vulnerable people in the off-campus area. The hiring is one of several university initiatives designed to support the neighborhoods and residents surrounding Ohio State’s campus.

Ten Ohio State students receive Fulbright awards

Ten students from The Ohio State University received Fulbright U.S. Student Program awards for the 2021-2022 academic year from the U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

Fulbright participants will study, conduct research and teach abroad for the 2021-2022 academic year through the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. Recipients of Fulbright awards are selected in an open, merit-based competition that considers leadership potential, academic and/or professional achievement and record of service.

Alexander St. Leger awarded Fulbright to Moldova

The Ohio State University alumnus Alexander St. Leger ‘21, international studies major and Spanish minor, has been awarded a U.S. Student Fulbright Grant to teach English in Moldova during the 2021-2022 academic year. While performing his teaching duties, St. Leger will organize American entertainment nights.
