The Ohio State University Honors and Scholars Center proudly celebrates Joyce Hu, a first-year Stamps Eminence Scholar, who was named a 2025 U.S. Presidential Scholar. This prestigious national honor recognizes high school graduates who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement, leadership, service, and contributions to their communities.
Originally from Morgantown, West Virginia, Hu graduated from Morgantown High School and now brings her exceptional talents to the Buckeye community. She is one of only 161 students nationwide selected by the U.S. Department of Education for this honor.
As a Stamps Eminence Scholar, Hu is part of a select group of students at Ohio State who demonstrate extraordinary potential to lead and serve.
Reflecting on the honor, Hu shared:
“Being named a U.S. Presidential Scholar is both an incredible honor and a reminder of my responsibility to use education to turn my passion into action. As a Stamps Eminence Scholar, I’ve found a community that encourages continuous learning and challenges me to think deeply about leadership, service, and innovation. This recognition reflects my commitment to creating transformational change for everyone through collaboration with my peers and mentors at OSU, other US Presidential Scholars, and beyond.”
The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, established in 1964 by Executive Order of the President, honors one young man and one young woman from each state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and U.S. families living abroad, along with additional scholars selected at-large and in the fields of the arts and career and technical education. Scholars are chosen from a pool of over 6,400 candidates based on academic records, essays, school evaluations, and evidence of leadership and community engagement.
Hu’s recognition as a U.S. Presidential Scholar reflects the caliber of students drawn to Ohio State and the university’s commitment to fostering academic excellence and leadership.
