Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Programs

The Rangel Program is a collaborative effort between Howard University and the U.S. State Department that seeks to attract and prepare outstanding young people for careers as diplomats in the Foreign Service. The program encourages the application of members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service and those with financial need.

The Rangel Summer Enrichment Program is a six-week program in Washington, D.C., focused on international affairs; approximately 15-20 undergraduates are selected to participate annually. The Rangel Graduate Fellowship Program selects 20 outstanding fellows each year and helps support them through two years of graduate study, internships and professional development activities, and entry into the Foreign Service. To be eligible, applicants must be freshmen through juniors (Summer Enrichment Program) or seniors or recent graduates (Graduate Fellowship) with a GPA of 3.2 or higher, have demonstrated leadership abilities, be planning a career in the U.S. Foreign Service, and show how they will bring a diverse perspective to the program.
