Ohio State Named a Top Producer of Fulbright Students 2015-2016

The Ohio State University has been announced as a top producer of Fulbright Students for 2015-2016 in The Chronicle of Higher Education. Of the 63 students who applied last year, 12 students were named recipients of Fulbright U.S. Student grants. Six Ohio State faculty also received Fulbright Scholar grants for the current year​.  Ohio State is one of only 14 institutions named a 2015-2016 top producer for both Fulbright Students and Fulbright Scholars.

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program—sponsored by the U.S Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs—awards grants to students seeking to teach, study, and conduct research in more than 155 countries. Fulbright grants fund project and living expenses for an 8-12 month period. Students are required to develop an independent program proposal and secure in-country affiliation.

Below is a list of Ohio State's 12 Fulbright Students for 2015-2016:

  • Ilhan Dahir, a political science and English double major, and an Honors student, has an English Teaching Assistantship in Turkey
  • Mushtaq Dualeh, a public health major, has an English Teaching Assistantship in Malaysia
  • Brandon Fitzwater, an international studies and German double major, and an International Affairs Scholar, has an English Teaching Assistantship in Germany
  • Sarah Garver, a graduate student in Sociology, is in Malawi conducting sociology research
  • Ryan Hedrick, a political science and linguistics double major, has an English Teaching Assistantship in the Slovak Republic
  • Anna Irvine, an international studies and German double major, and an International Affairs Scholar, has an English Teaching Assistantship in Germany
  • Kristin Krzic, an international studies and Korean double major, and an International Affairs Scholar, has an English Teaching Assistantship in South Korea
  • Marianne Manzler, an English major, has an English Teaching Assistantship in Malaysia
  • Carrie Morgan, a graduate student in Slavic and Eastern European studies, is in Albania conducting  linguistics research
  • Chineze Okpalaoka, an international studies major, has an English Teaching Assistantship in South Africa
  • Jared Palazza, a zoology and Russian double major, and an Honors student, has an English Teaching Assistantship in Russia
  • Daniel Petrick, a political science major, has an English Teaching Assistantship in Bosnia and Herzegovina


The Undergraduate Fellowship Office advises and assists undergraduate students who are interested in applying for national scholarships and fellowships. The UFO also assists recent Ohio State alumni who are interested in pursuing national awards requiring university endorsement.
