The "Year in Review" Page

Your "Year in Review" page is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.

Here are some ways you might think about your "Year in Review" page:

  • A yearly summary of your personal and professional growth throughout the year
  • A place to reflect upon your experiences (both good and bad) over the course of the year
  • A place to reflect upon your expectation for the year and set expectations for the next year
  • A place to reflect upon previous years and see how you have changed and grown

What should be included:

  • An update on any major projects (such as a thesis or participation in a Scholars program) or involvements and some reflection on how they have shaped your interests and future goals
  • A discussion of your expectations for the year and expectations moving forward
  • Any transformational experiences, whether positive or negative, and the impact they have had on you

Questions to consider when writing your "Year in Review" page:

  • Who were you at the beginning of this year and who are you now?  Look at your level of maturity and how you have evolved and matured.
  • Did you meet your initial expectations for the year?
  • How have you grown personally?  How does personal growth give you context and perspective and why is that important when reflecting back on your experiences?
  • How have new or unexpected experiences affected you, your beliefs, and your plans?
  • Did anything exciting or wonderful happen? Were you surprised?
  • Did you experience a setback or disappointment? How are you planning to handle it?
