Our Mission

The Honors Collegium is an academic enrichment program for select students in the University Honors Program. The focus of the Collegium is to provide students with guidance and programming that enables them to fully maximize their Honors Program experiences.  Through interaction with world-class faculty and meaningful out-of-class opportunities, the Honors Collegium seeks to develop these students into intellectual leaders, global citizens, and engaged learners. Collegium students sustain and enhance the excellence of Ohio State while creating a strong community of peers. They are diverse in their academic interests and involved in making a difference both on and off campus.

The Honors Collegium helps students navigate their undergraduate years and assists them as they take responsibility for creating customized learning experiences, identifying competitive internships and opportunities, and charting their own distinctive paths.

Benefits

  • Dedicated, personal mentoring and advising from faculty, staff, and peers
  • Assistance with personal mission planning and goal setting
  • Individualized assistance with preparation for competitive opportunities and applications including internships, study abroad, grants and funding, and graduate and professional programs
  • Networking opportunities to connect Collegium students with distinguished faculty and leaders in industry, as well as connections to high-profile internships and research positions

Collegium Faculty Community

A goal of the Honors Collegium is that each member will develop close relationships with faculty members in an area of mutual interest. Toward this end, the Collegium has begun to build a community of faculty who are well connected to a wide variety of other faculty in their own and related disciplines.

Members of the Collegium Faculty Community are recruited for their reputation as both distinguished researchers and excellent undergraduate student advisors. They agree to mentor a small cohort of Collegium students in their general academic area and help those students connect with other important faculty contacts. This interaction will enhance the students' academic experiences, enrich the faculty members' research and teaching, and create the type of documentable experiences that will benefit the students in immeasurable ways.

Prospective ACE Scholars should research the requirements of teacher licensure in their area of interest when considering Ohio State, as some teachers are trained at the undergraduate level, some at the post-baccalaureate level and a great many trained exclusively through competitive master’s degree programs. Below you will find a listing of the most common graduate and licensure programs pursued by current Scholars.

Other Benefits

Scholars students receive College Level Priority Scheduling. This means that they schedule classes at the beginning of their rank, ie. Scholars freshmen schedule before all other freshmen.

The Student Advisory Committee consists of representatives from each graduating class. This group comes together to discuss the Collegium program, share student perspectives, and provide student leadership and voice for the Collegium. They may be involved in recruitment events such as informational meetings and various recruitment lunches. They are ambassadors for the Collegium and represent their respective classes. This interchange between the committee and staff ensures that Collegium students maintain a voice and role in developing programming that will best address their needs.
